How do I switch between Shape and Walk modes?
Pinch in anywhere on the screen (or tap the circular Walk button in the top bar) to glide down into the grass. Pinch out (or tap Rise) to ascend back to the sky view at any moment.
How does the ecosystem work?
Living things respond to the landscape you create. A spring sends water downhill, pooling in natural hollows. Reeds and willows flourish near water banks, while cacti grow only in dry ground. Frogs appear after spring rains, herons hunt near ponds with fish, and golden eagles soar near high rocky cliffs.
What platforms are supported?
Whimbrel is a Universal purchase supporting:
- macOS: macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer, optimized for Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4/M5) and Intel.
- iOS & iPadOS: iOS 17 or newer, with ProMotion 120 Hz support.
- Android: Android 10 or newer.
Can I run Whimbrel as a Mac desktop wallpaper?
Yes. Open Settings > Display > Live Desktop Scene. Your living world will run smoothly behind your open windows at a gentle 15 fps, automatically pausing when covered or on low battery.
Does Whimbrel require an internet connection?
No. Whimbrel is 100% offline. All ecology rules, graphic rendering, and spatial audio synthesis run entirely on your device with zero network calls.
